Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Gayle is known as one of the strongest ball-hitters in cricket. 
He holds several records in both T20 matches and One-Day Internationals (ODIs).  
  • 2nd most sixes in an innings (16) One Day Internationals 
  • 2nd most runs in an innings (117) T20 Internationals 
  • 1st highest partnership for second wicket (372) One Day Internationals 
  • 2nd Fifties in consecutive innings (4) T20 internationals 
  • 3rd most fifties in consecutive innings (6) One Day Internationals 
  • 8th most hundreds in a career (2) T20 internationals 
Widely regarded as one of the best T20 players of all time.  Gayle is an all-rounder – bats and bowls and incredible in the field as well. 
He also holds several records in Test cricket.  
  • 1st – Most triple hundreds in a career (2) (Test matches) 
  • 4th most sixes in a career (Test Matches) 
  • 7th Most runs in an innings (by batting position) Test matches) 
  • 1,000 runs, 50 wickets and 50 catches 
In 2012, he became the only player in the world to hit a six off the first ball of a Test match.  
Apart from being one of only four players to score two triple-centuries in Test cricket, he is also known as one of the few players to score a double-century in a one-day match
