Marvel boss confirms Daredevil rumour

Ever since Netflix's Marvel shows were cancelled, fans have been clamouring to see Charlie Cox suit up again as Daredevil.

Cox played The Man Without Fear in three seasons of his own series as well as The Defenders miniseries in the Netflix corner of the Marvel world. His portrayal is considered by many fans to be the definitive onscreen version of Matt Murdock.

While the Netflix Marvel shows including Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher were technically part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in so far as they referenced incidents from the MCU movies, it only flowed one way.

The MCU films never acknowledged the presence of its TV arm (at the time run through a separate and now defunct studio division) so Cox's Daredevil wasn't MCU canon, per se.

Now, the man who controls all the MCU strings, Kevin Feige, has confirmed that if there were to be a version of Daredevil in the MCU, Cox would be the one to play him.

"If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen," Feige told Cinemablend.

Which isn't to say that the MCU's Matt Murdock would be the exact same one as that who appeared on the Netflix shows, but at least it would be portrayed by the same actor.

The MCU has now busted open the multiverse which allows for the possibility that the Netflix shows, which ran from 2015 to 2019, took place in a parallel universe to the main one we've been following since Iron Man in 2008.

There have been rumours that Cox as Daredevil would appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Cox has been playing coy in interviews, including with this answer he gave Sirius XM: "If there was an opportunity for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like, I imagine it would be a reimagining of the character and the show.

"If they choose me to do it, there are going to be some elements that are of course the same. Or they might choose someone else and reboot it all over again."

Meanwhile, Feige's pronouncement lends more weight to speculation that Daredevil's foe, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, portrayed in the Netflix shows by Vincent D'Onofrio, is set to make his MCU debut.

Last week's episode of MCU streaming series Hawkeye featured an obscured character whose bulky arm and side was shown on screen in a scene with antagonist Echo. He was also heard to laugh, and it sounded suspiciously like D'Onofrio's chuckle.

The character was referred to as Echo's "uncle", which tracks with the existing relationship between Echo and Kingpin in the comic books.

Additionally, D'Onofrio tweeted about how he was looking forward to Hawkeye, which led many of his followers to wonder if he would soon be making an appearance in the MCU.
