New Zealand rock trio Capital Theatre have released a new track called ‘Underworld,’ putting their stamp on what they like to call rock theatre.
Underworld, recorded again with the legendary Mike Clink between both East West Studios and Sunset Studios in LA, is a reminder that Capital Theatre loves, well, theatre.
The song is a colourful, mythical dive into the underworld with the lead protagonist fighting for control against authority.
“Our songs tend to be set somewhere and have a real identity to them,” says frontman Adam Stevenson.
“Living up to the name Capital Theatre also weighs in on our style of rock music, the material on our second album is a lot more dynamic with these little theatrical moments, which create a great live show.”
The band had Chris Cheney (Janes Addiction) and Zac Rae (Death Cab for Cutie) play on this track, along with friend of the band, former MTV personality and KLOS radio DJ Matt Pinfield, who dropped in to record gang vocals.
“It’s another slick Mike Clink production, he knows us very well now having recorded our debut album with us, so it’s been great to develop the new songs with him,” Says Stevenson.
The band will be travelling to the US again in May 2023 to play two of America’s largest rock festivals Welcome To Rockville in Florida and Sonic Temple in Ohio, where they will play alongside the likes of Tool, Incubus, Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Kiss, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper & Deftones to name a few
