Take a star of the West End musical Stomp, an Internationally celebrated singersongwriter and guitar maker, add a bucket load of gold and platinum selling albums, a splash of salt water and a liberal dose of life experience from Lynfield College to London and beyond, and you have the perfect recipe for New Zealand’s new favourite alt rock duo – Midwave Breaks. Former Supergroove drummer and Stomp performer Paul Russell and his brother in arms from Eight, singer-songwriter and guitarist Bruce Conlon, started making music together again in 2020 and the result is a trio of anthemic songs that owe as much to New Zealand summer road trips as they do to Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and the soundtrack of their youth. Midwave Breaks are driven by the energy of the creative process, with an innate ability to craft songs that capture a moment and stick in your head. With plenty more to come, this formidable duo are a powerhouse of song writing, production, musicianship and performance. Lucky You.
