22 years since the incident of the Isla Nublar, Zach and Gray Mitchell head to visit their Aunt Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) the park operations manager of ‘Jurassic World’, the fully functioning dinosaur theme park that was once dreamed of being established by John Hammond until it all went pear shaped. The two boys quickly come to grips with the amazement of the theme park, until the inevitable comes into place and nature runs it course as once could only expect in true Jurassic fashion.
Director Colin Trevorrow has certainly established his presence within the Jurassic series, creating a sequel that follows directly from the first ‘Jurassic Park’ wiping away the terrible sequels that roamed before it. The film is nothing short of amazing, and it proves that the wonder and excitement of our prehistoric friends is still ever so evident. The introduction of the ‘Indominus Rex’ is something to be admired, a genetically created being that isn’t quite as it seems, a true statement of current status. The hybrid dinosaur at the center of the film's story is symbolic of consumer and corporate excess, a smart statement towards greed and profit, and desire to be satisfied.
The film definitely still creates a sense of wonder and excitement that brings nostalgia back from the first time the majority of us first saw these amazing creatures grace the screen. The notion and use of CGI has been flawlessly intercepted and rendered so that the experience for the audience is as authentic as you could possibly get, especially when delivered in 3D.
Chris Pratt is fantastic as ‘Owen’ an ex navy marine now taking control of the Raptors within the park. Yes that’s right, he’s a badass Raptor trainer… Could it get any cooler than that? This man has a knack lately of scoring some of the most status bumping roles throughout Hollywood, establishing himself as a true blockbuster Actor. Evidently, Pratt holds a far better presence on screen than, dare I say, Sam Neill. I know Nostalgia kicks in and angry Jurassic Park fans will hate that comment, yet honestly Pratt simply kills it and actually creates a sense of belief that he can handle himself within the prehistoric park.
The film is a sure fire spectacle and possibly one of the biggest blockbuster releases in the last few years, something a lot of fans have been waiting a long time to see. And I can assure you that you will get the same feelings of excitement and wonder from the first, with just the right amount of nostalgia to follow. This film is surely not to be missed while in theatres and in 3D while it is in cinemas. So grab your popcorn and get going, ferry’s will be departing for the Island every hour. I predict a big box office haul for this smash hit.
I give ‘Jurassic World’ a solid 8.3/10
