Why Flight of the Conchords said no to a third season

Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have revealed why they walked away from their hit HBO sitcom Flight of the Conchords.

The duo made two seasons of the show between 2007 and 2009 and scored rave reviews, leaving many fans wondering why they never made a third.

Speaking to The Guardian during their tour of the UK and Ireland, they said the pressure to work to the tight schedules required of a television series took its toll.

"It's not like we were tired of each other's company. It just wasn't fun," McKenzie says.

In fact, the duo felt so strongly they didn't want to continue, that they asked their agents not to tell them what they were being offered for a third series.

And despite their enduring popularity — evidenced by their sold-out shows in the UK — the pair still buy into the New Zealand culture of not wanting to stand out.

"Fame is only an impediment," says Clement.

But fans of the show needn't despair — it was revealed in January that a one-hour Flight of the Conchords special is on the cards.

"We're going to film a little something this year. We're going to shoot an hour thing," Clement told ET online.

The Conchords have a number of dates yet to play on their current tour after it had to be postponed when McKenzie broke his hand back in March.
