The Godfather of Shock Rock may have shocked the world with his latest triumph — a No. 1 album 52 years into his career.
Alice Cooper's Detroit Stories LP, his 21st studio album, has debuted in the No. 1 position on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart.
The album, which features a reunion between Alice and the surviving members of his original band, sold 13,000 copies in its first week available on CD, digital download and vinyl.
Cooper's latest topped a chart dominated by fellow music veterans, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and NOFX.
On the Billboard 200, the album debuted at No. 47.
Detroit Stories is Alice's first studio album since 2019's Rise by Hollywood Vampires. It's his first record under his own name since 2017's Paranormal.
The good news comes a week after Alice pushed back at Gene Simmons' tired declarations that rock music is "dead," pointing to the fact that the genre is artistically as vibrant as ever and cultivating new young fans every day.
Alice himself remains as motivated as ever. He revealed in a late-February podcast with his live band that he plans to write and record his next studio album on tour.
