Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder unveiled two new singles as part of Wednesday night's Venture Into Cures benefit for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) research.
The life-threatening, rare genetic skin disorder affects about half a million people worldwide. People with EB have extremely fragile skin and are subject to severe pain, including both external and internal wounds that often do not heal. EB sufferers are subject to a grueling daily bandaging process, as there is currently no other treatment or cure.
Both songs shared during the star-studded livestream were inspired by Eddie and his wife Jill Vedder's work with the EB Research Partnership to raise funds, educate viewers and find a cure.
"Matter of Time" is a piano ballad that builds to a hopeful conclusion. It arrives along with an animated music video in which children suffered from EB are cured and able to play together.
"Say Hi" is a folk-influenced song Eddie has performed live over the years but never previously released.
Listen to both new songs below.
"Ed and I are incredibly grateful to everyone joining us for Venture Into Cures," said Jill in a statement. "Every day kids with EB and their families face astonishing challenges. This event will give people a glimpse into their world. EBRP's mission is to find a cure for EB, and this event will help bring us one step closer to making that mission a reality by adding momentum to the work being done."
The Venture Into Cures benefit also featured performances by Jon Batiste, Alessia Cara, Andra Day, Glen Hansard, Adam Levine, Keb' Mo' and Lukas, Micah and Willie Nelson.
