Iron Maiden is back with new music for the first time since 2015 with an epic new single, "Writing on the Wall."
Accompanied by an equally ambitious animated music video, our first taste of new Maiden music is as dynamic as anything the band released last decade.
In the hours after the visual dropped, fans have eagerly combed through each scene pointing out Easter egg references to previous Maiden albums and lyrics.
The track title is a biblical reference from the story of Belshazzar's Feast in the Book of Daniel. The music video, of course, stars the band's mascot, Eddie, while subtly hinting at elements of the Bible story, with added inspiration from films like Mad Max or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

"Writing on the Wall" was written by frontman Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith and co-produced by Kevin Shirley (who work on Iron Maiden's last album, Book of Souls) and bassist Steve Harris.
Dickinson has teased new Iron Maiden music going back to the band's last live performances in 2019.
While Maiden won't be touring again until 2022, Dickinson will be touring the U.K. this summer with his autobiographical one-man show, 'An Evening With Bruce Dickinson.'
