Kings of Leon are giving fans another offering from their upcoming album When You See Yourself.
On Thursday (February 11), the band dropped a new song called “Echoing” along with its accompanying music video. The video makes us itch for live music and features the guys playing the song through a retro-looking filter and camera.
“Waking early in the morning/ Waiting on the light of day/ Whole new kind of feeling is on the way/ I’m not scared of knowing If we’re ever getting out/ We could be here forever without a doubt,” Caleb Followill sings in the first verse of the boisterous song.
While the song has many of the usual Kings of Leon elements in it, the band has been experimenting when it comes to the new album.
In a recent UK interview, Followill said the band's lead guitarist, Matthew Followill, was into playing a bunch of different instruments including synths. “Matthew really nerded out and found some cool vintage equipment,” he explained. “He was into organs and synthesisers… A lot of the instruments on this album, you could’ve heard on Pink Floyd or Beatles albums. We really dug deep to find the proper equipment.”
With all the time they've had to perfect the sound on the album, it's no wonder it could be their best yet. “It’s my favorite record, for sure and now I’m interested to see what the fans think about it,” drummer Nathan Followill said.
So far, it seems like everyone is loving the sound as fans wasted no time commenting their praise in the YouTube comments. “Just another great stepping stone in the Kings of Leon's evolution. This album gives me such 70’s-80’s retro/Eagle’s vibes. Combining modern and classic,” one fan wrote.
“Echoing” follows “The Bandit” and “100,000 People.” When You See Yourself drops on March 5 and is the band's first album in four years.
