Kings Of Leon's Caleb Followill explains why he's sour about "Sex On Fire"

Kings of Leon returned with their eighth studio album (first in four years) When You See Yourself on Friday (March 5), and upon its release reflected on their nearly two-decade career with NME.

While the band's members have grown up personally, their music has too. “There comes a point in your life where singing about certain things is just kind of goofy,” frontman Caleb Followill confessed. “It doesn’t have to be about pretty girls; it doesn’t have to be simple rhyme patterns. We know a lot of people would love us to come out with long hair and moustaches, to be the guys from ‘Youth & Young Manhood’ again, but we’re a different band now. There’s always going to be those fun pop song moments reminiscing about youth, but for the most part you have to write from your heart.”

He also explained why he's always felt "sour" that 2008's "Sex on Fire" is what propelled KoL into superstardom. “There comes a point when you can either be proud of what you’ve accomplished or you can still sit back and be sour over it,” he said. “My sour side was never because of the music itself, it was because I thought we should have gotten that kind of recognition earlier on in our career.”

KoL are celebrating When You See Yourself with an iHeartRadio Release Party on Saturday (March 13). Find out how you can tune in here.
