Metallica is keeping 2021 exciting with a new endorsement with Burton, but the team-up had some fans confusing the project with a tribute to the collective's fallen bassist Cliff Burton.
While the venture doesn't pay homage to Burton, who served as the bassist from the band from 1983 until his death in 1986, the new partnership brings the iconic rock vets' brand into new territory. The group has teamed up with the snowboard company for a limited-edition capsule collection, which includes imagery from their discography featured throughout the line. Among the items include T-shirts, jackets, snowboards, beanies, backpacks and other accessories. Additionally, fans can also purchase a travel bag, which mirrors the road cases that Metallica takes on tour. The line, which retails between $50 and $600, is currently available for purchase online and at select Burton stores.
"Electrify the trail with our latest collaboration with the iconic snowboard brand," the band said in a statement. In case you weren't aware, Metallica has been longtime fans of Burton’s Wheelie luggage. The brand even created customized cases for one of the group's previous tours.
Expect more from Metallica when the group serves as the musical guest on Wednesday's episode of The Late Show with Steven Colbert at 11:35 PM ET on CBS.
