Mick Jagger seems to think the newly-unearthed Rolling Stones tracks included in the band's Goats Head Soup album reissue are proof of the band being a bit "lazy" over the years.
As Jagger explained to The Sunday Times, he was against the idea of putting out previously-unreleased material because he assumed the incomplete songs were "terrible."
He admitted in a recent conversation with Rolling Stone, however, that the mindset probably says more about himself than the old material, which has been well-received since it began being unveiled this summer.
"I've got a bit of a negative thing about them," Jagger said. "But then you start listening to them and going, 'Well, actually, it's not bad at all. I don't know why we didn't finish it.' We were just being lazy, you know."
Jagger, one of the hardest-working figures in rock, is probably the only person on Earth who would suggest his band lacks drive. The Stones are still recording and touring nearly 60 years after their earliest gigs.
The Stones unveiled three previously-unreleased tracks along with the reissue of Goats Head Soup, "Criss Cross," "Scarlet" and "All the Rage."
The track that generated by far the most interest was "Scarlet," which features late-Blind Faith and Traffic bassist Rich Grech and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page.
Jagger and Keith Richards credited Page with jogging their memory about the specifics of the "Scarlet" session. Page said he was thrilled with the final product, and happy it finally got released.
