While Noel Gallagher surely enjoyed Oasis's success in the '90s, it never sat well with him that his Britpop group was compared to The Beatles.
Though Oasis was a gigantic band at its height, Gallagher argues they had nowhere near the talent or the chops of the Fab Four.
Gallagher addressed the comparisons ahead of a recent screening of Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back documentary series, noting that The Beatles "mean everything" to him.
"When Oasis started, we were so big we were compared to [The Beatles] size-wise and musically, embarrassingly, compared to them as well...because we weren't as good as them," he said.
While The Beatles influence was evident in aspects Oasis's sound, Gallagher — the band's chief songwriter — scoffs at the suggestion that his own music ever equated that of The Beatles.
"They influenced everybody who influenced everybody else, who influenced everybody that came and went," he added. "Their influence is absolute. I don't know a single guy playing the guitar or writing songs that wouldn't cite the Beatles as an influence."
