Paul McCartney's career in music is the subject of a new documentary series hosted by famed mega-producer Rick Rubin.
On Wednesday, McCartney unveiled a black & white trailer titled "Paul McCartney x Rick Rubin. A forthcoming documentary event. Coming soon."
The 96-second clip shows Rubin and the former Beatle enrapt in conversation at a recording console, discussing different points in McCartney's career, including the way he plays, composes and records music.
The trailer includes clips of songs from both McCartney's solo career and his time with The Beatles, including "Lovely Rita," "Paperback Writer," "Come Together," "Michelle" and "Live and Let Die."
In one scene, McCartney discusses the accidental immortality of The Beatles' catalog: "We realized, you know, we were writing songs that were memorable, not 'cause we wanted them to be memorable but because we had to remember them."
In another snippet, McCartney reveals why he prefers to lead his band with a bass guitar in his hands, as opposed to other instruments.
Further details about the title, platform or release date of the new series were not included in the trailer. A note below the video on McCartney's website recommends fans "Keep your eyes peeled in 2021 for more information."
Bee Gees documentary producer Frank Marshall is listed as a co-producer on the McCartney project, which is currently finding distribution, according to Deadline.
McCartney's latest solo album, McCartney III, is coming out tomorrow, Friday, December 18. To promote the new LP, McCartney will be interviewed by Chris Rock via YouTube's 'Released' series Thursday at 11:45 p.m. ET.
While McCartney is one of the few artists Rubin hasn't directly produced, Rubin did work on McCartney's 2014 "Only One" collaboration with Kanye West.
Since 2017, Rubin has been a co-host of the Broken Record podcast, alongside Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond.
