Singer Tina Turner has died, aged 83, her spokesperson has been reported to have confirmed..
Sky News has reported a statement from the singer’s spokesperson as stating: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
The American-born and naturalised Swiss singer, dancer, actress and author became a global star as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer.
Ike & Tina Turner became “one of the most formidable live acts in history” with hits such as “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine”, “River Deep – Mountain High”, “Proud Mary”, and “Nutbush City Limits” before disbanding in 1976.
In the 1980s, Turner launched her comeback with the 1984 multi-platinum album “Private Dancer”, including the hit song “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, which won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became her first and only number one song on the Billboard Hot 100.
Success continued with “Better Be Good to Me”, “Private Dancer”, “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)”, “Typical Male”, “The Best”, “I Don’t Wanna Fight”, and “GoldenEye”.
