Smashing Pumpkins compile playlist of the best 'CYR' covers

Earlier this month, Smashing Pumpkins asked fans to submit covers of their favorite CYR songs for a chance to win some pretty cool prizes. On Tuesday (February 23), the band announced the grand prize winner and three runner ups.

A fan who goes by "Mighty One Man Band" won the contest with an impressive cover of "Wyytch" where he, you guessed it, plays every instrument. Here's what he won: "The winning video will be posted on The Smashing Pumpkins and Sumerian Youtube channels and the winner will receive a $100 merch store gift card, (1) CYR 180g Black Ice vinyl and (1) Album poster."

The runner ups include “Adrennalynne” reimagined as a piano ballad, a dreamy version of "Birch Grove," and a cover of "Tyger, Tyger" that features some pretty cute felines. Here's what the runner ups won: "A $50 merch store gift card, (1) CYR 180g Black Ice vinyl, and (1) album poster."

The Smashing Pumpkins compiled a YouTube playlist of all 20 contest finalists, which you can watch above.

On March 6, the band's guitarist/keyboardist Jeff Schroeder is putting on a virtual benefit concert to support live music industry workers who've been hit hard during the pandemic.
