The San Francisco Giants didn't let the COVID-19 pandemic or lack of fans in the stadium get in the way of their ninth annual Metallica night.
Every year since 2012, the Giants have used at least one home game to celebrate one of the Bay Area's most consequential cultural exports.
While this MLB season has been different from the others in so many ways, the team still tapped Metallica's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett for a virtual performance of the National Anthem, with baseball's regular season coming to an end on Sept. 27.
Metallica's duo of axemen recorded their "Star-Spangled Banner" performance side-by-side from the band's rehearsal space at its Bay Arean HQ.
Hammett delivered a wah-wah version of the melody, while Hetfield added harmony, tension and release with his part.

The anthem performance is the latest example of Metallica making the most out of what became a lost year for so many artists.
The band has been raising money for charity and committing millions in grants all year through its All Within My Hands Foundation, in addition to entertaining fans digitally, recording a new concert film, releasing its long-awaited S&M 2 live album and writing new material.
