Pink Floyd has sold the rights to their recorded music, name, and likeness to Sony for $400 million, bringing apparent relief to David Gilmour.

The deal, confirmed by the Financial Times and Digital Music News, has been in the works for some time. Fans can expect to hear more Pink Floyd songs in movies, TV shows, gaming, and other media through new licensing agreements.

Pink Floyd was one of the last major classic rock bands to make such a move, after prolonged negotiations between Gilmour and Roger Waters. One of the sticking points in the discussions was the deal's tax structure. Other bidders included Warner Music, Hipgnosis, and BMG.

Gilmour has been vocal about his desire to sell, expressing a wish to escape the decision-making and disputes that have surrounded the band's legacy. "My dream is to be rid of the mud bath it has been for quite a while," he stated.

Nick Mason remains the only other living core member of the band, following the deaths of Syd Barrett and Richard Wright. Mason has since formed a side project, Saucerful of Secrets, focusing on Pink Floyd's early works.

While neither Pink Floyd nor Sony has officially confirmed the deal, Gilmour has chosen to avoid discussing his strained relationship with Waters. "What relevance does it have now?" he asked, reflecting on their history.

Pink Floyd aren’t the first band to sell their Music rights, other notable names include -

Bruce Springsteen - Reported $500-550 Million
