Steven Avery's Lawyers Are Coming To NZ

If you were one of the thousands who found themselves completely transfixed by recent Netflix series Making A Murderer, and were gripped by the story of Steven Avery and his family, who may or may not have been responsible for the disappearance of a young woman in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, but was utterly failed by the police force and justice system not once but twice, then here's some news for you.

Avery's two defence attorneys, Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, who feature in the documentary series, are coming to New Zealand in November for a public discussion about the case.

They will appear at the ASB Theatre in Auckland on Wednesday, November 9, in conversation about the Avery case and its broader implications, and also in a moderated discussion regarding the systematic failures of the criminal justice system.

This will include a Q&A, giving the audience a unique opportunity to address questions with both Strang and Buting.

Given global interest in recent documentary series like Making A Murderer,The Jinx, and the podcast Serial, along with major developments in New Zealand in relation to the Teina Pora case, and contentious cases from the past, this will be an interesting opportunity to hear from two lawyers who have become almost pop culture figures, and their views on the role of the media in cases like these.

Tickets go on sale from 10am, Tuesday, April 19.
