Australian Al Jazeera reporter Peter Greste has left Cairo on board a flight for Cyprus after being released from jail.
Greste had been sentenced to seven years in prison along with Fahmy, for allegedly aiding the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood group, while Baher Mohamed was sentenced to 10 years.
A Cairo airport official says Greste is on an EgyptAir flight to Larnaca, Cyprus that took off shortly after 1am today.
Earlier, a senior interior ministry official said there had been a decision to deport Greste to his home country.
Al Jazeera has called on Egypt to release Canadian-Egyptian Mohamed Fahmy, and Egyptian Baher Mohamed following the release from prison and deportation of Australian journalist Peter Greste.
Acting director of the Doha-based network, Mostefa Souag, says they won't rest until the pair also regain their freedom, saying the Egyptian authorities have it in their power to do so.
An airport official says Greste left Cairo on board a flight for Cyprus about one o'clock this morning after being released from jail.
