There's plenty of self-belief in the Breakers camp as they approach a fifth playoffs appearance in six years.

The defending champions qualified fourth and face top qualifier Melbourne United in a best of three game series starting on Thursday night.

Forward Tai Wesley feels they're hitting top gear at the right time.

"We're on a five game win streak, we just beat the team we're playing twice, confidence is high. We feel good about where we're at as a team but we know that in the playoffs you've got to take it to another level."

Wesley said winning back to back titles would be nice, but that's not all that's motivating them.

"We want to win it for us, we want to win it for the club, we just want to win. And coming in first or fourth, it doesn't really matter, we're going to put it all on the line."

Game one is in Melbourne with game two on Saturday in Auckland and if needed game three in Melbourne next Friday.

The Perth Wildcats and Illawarra Hawks will contest the other semi finals spot.
