An awful first half has seen the Breakers flop to their fifth successive defeat in the Australian Basketball League.

Poor shooting and a lack of intensity had the Breakers trailing 50-34 at half time, eventually losing 89-66 to Townsville

The Breakers three point struggles continued, landing just six of their 24 shots beyond the arc.

Assistant coach Paul Henare is lamenting a disappointing effort.

"It might sound like words considering we just got our arse kicked, but it's a group that have been through a lot together, and are still going to go out and compete so that they can turn this thing around," he said.

"We're not brushing aside the importance of that game and how we played, but we have to get to a point where we let that one go."

There's now a considerable gap between the fifth-placed Breakers and Adelaide who holds the last playoff spot.

It'll be a short turnaround for the fifth placed Breakers who face Cairns tomorrow.

The Wildcats thrashed the Hawks 95-72 in Perth.
