The Black Caps have departed for their next assignment fuelled with even more motivation after the death of legend Martin Crowe.

The 15-man squad has left the country bound for the Twenty 20 World Cup in India, with the news of the cricket legend's death still sinking in.

New Black Caps captain Kane Williamson says Crowe had close contact with much of the team, and his support will linger in the camp for quite some time.

"He's a legend of the game...it's sad to see a guy like Martin who's so close to the country, to lose him at such a young age," Williamson said.

Coach Mike Hesson says he and Crowe had a number of meetings, all of which were extremely beneficial.

"We just talked about the game," Hesson said. "Certainly [we] benefited from those opportunities to pick his brain. They're definitely memories I'll cherish."

"He's affected so many people in different ways in such a positive manner, whether they've watched him play live or whether they've had the opportunity to talk with him."

The Black Caps have a pre-tournament camp in Dubai for several days, before heading to India.
