World number one Novak Djokovic has angrily denied a claim he lost a match deliberately in 2007.

Djokovic was questioned at length over the match he lost 6-3, 6-2 to the now retired Fabrice Santoro nine years ago with Turin based Tuttosport claiming he 'voluntarily lost.'

Djokovic says it's absurd.

"You can pick any match that you like that the top player lost and just create a story out of it. It's not supported by any kind of clues, any evidence, any facts - it's just speculation so I don't think there's a story out of it."

The defending champion has cruised into the third round at the Australian Open with a straight sets win.

Women's 6th seed Petra Kvitova's been the major casualty on day three losing to Russian born Aussie Daria Gavrilova.

The Australian Open has been overshadowed by revelations 16 players who have been ranked in the top 50 have been repeatedly flagged to the Tennis Integrity Unit over suspicions they've thrown matches in the past decade.
