It's been a disastrous day for England on Day Two of the second Ashes test at Lord's.

After Australia declared for 566 for eight, the tourists left England in tatters on 85 for four at stumps, trailing by 481 runs.

Bowler Stuart Broad says they're battling a wicket that suits Australia more than them.

"The Aussies are a bit quicker than us, a bit fuller than us, trying to hit the base of the stumps almost. So you take the wicket out of the equation a bit there."

Steve Smith finished on 215, a score that now sees him pass Joe Root for most runs scored in test matches this year.
