England has regained the Ashes, with an innings and 78 run win over Australia in the third test at Trent Bridge to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.

They've skittled Australia for 253 all out early in day three, taking the three wickets needed in the space of 10 overs.

The emphatic loss has prompted Australian skipper Michael Clarke to announce his retirement from test cricket.

Clarke says he will walk away from the game after the fifth test as his performances over the past 12 months have not been acceptable.

Clarke has averaged 16.71 runs in England, the second worst average by an Ashes captain.

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were dismissed for ducks, while Nathan Lyon went for four runs.

Adam Voges was unbeaten on 51.

Ben Stokes finished with figures of six wickets for 36 runs, while Mark Wood took three.
