Kieran Foran has been granted indefinite leave by the Eels to deal with a personal matter.
The Kiwis five-eighth has reportedly been hospitalised due to concerns about his health and well-being.
A report from Australia's Daily Telegraph said Foran has been missing from training all week.
The club has confirmed Foran has been granted an indefinite leave to seek the best possible medical treatment.
The Telegraph reported that Foran would miss at least three games while specialists monitored his health, ruling him out of the Kiwis' Anzac test with Australia in Newcastle next Friday.
According to the paper, Foran had been struggling to cope with the pressure of the NRL and his relationship problems, a pair of issues compounded by an ongoing wage row with former club Manly.
Most of Foran's teammates were unaware of the seriousness of the 25-year-old's problems, but coach Brad Arthur had been a close confidant and insisted Foran put health ahead of football.
