MCC Apologises To Chris Cairns Over Match-Fixing Video

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns has received an apology from the Marylebone Cricket Club for publishing a video linking him to match-fixing.

Cairns won a libel case against former Indian Premier league boss Lalit Modi in 2012 over his publication of match-fixing allegations on Twitter, and was acquitted of perjury and perverting the course of justice last year at the Southwark Crown Court in London.

Cairns has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to such allegations.

Part of a lecture given by former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum appeared on the MCC website headlined 'McCullum on Cairns match-fixing'.

The MCC said it had "withdrawn its allegations completely" and apologised.

The video clip from the annual Spirit of Cricket lecture remained on the website for 11 hours before it was removed.

McCullum appeared as a witness at Cairns' 2015 trial.
