Peyton Manning's bristled at the only pointed question thrown at him in his retirement media conference.

The Denver Broncos quarterback has ended his NFL with two Super Bowl rings to his name.

But controversy has swirled around the all-American hero in the past few months, with an investigation underway into allegations he had human growth hormone delivered to his house.

An historic sexual assault case has also returned to the headlines, but Manning's deflected the topic when asked.

"First off this is a joyous day and nothing can overtake from this day. I think it is sad that some people don't understand the truth and the facts."

The investigation by the NFL into the HGH delivery will continue despite Manning's retirement.
