The Black Caps have an idea of how the Dharamsala pitch will play, but will wait until they inspect it before deciding on the make-up of their side to face Australia.
Rain has denied New Zealand the chance to train on the eve of tonight's trans-Tasman Twenty20 World Cup match, with the wicket block covered throughout the day.
Batsman Ross Taylor said they've looked at how the pitch has played in recent matches, but they don't want to get ahead of themselves.
"I think we've still got to assess the conditions as much as possible by looking it and playing it. I think if you go into it thinking that it's a 200 wicket or a 120 wicket sometimes that's when you get yourselves in trouble."
More rain is forecast for Dharamsala tonight.
