A powerful second half performance has propelled the Warriors to their first win of the NRL season, 18-6 over the Raiders in Canberra.

It was six all at the break before tries to Solomone Kata and Ryan Hoffman saw them surge to a lead they never relinquished.

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden says it was a far more clinical effort.

"Yeah very content you know, it was a hard fought victory, and it's not often we get to come down to Canberra and get the two points, so it was very important for us."

Coach Andrew McFadden says their defensive work was outstanding.

He says they aren't quite gelling with the ball on attack which means they have to work harder on defense.

There was more good news, with Sam Tomkins has shining in his return to the Warriors.

Tomkins was solid in defence and injected pace into the attack, having a hand in two of the Warriors three tries.

The Rabbitohs have won a high scoring encounter 34-26 over the Roosters in Sydney.
